Work has been progressing at Branston Locks, the sustainable new community designed by Node on the edge of Burton on Trent in Staffordshire.
We took the strategic scale site from initial land promotion through to outline planning approval in 2013 and subsequently produced a design code for the detailed design of each of the site’s character areas.
Branston Locks will provide up to 2,500 new homes, 20 hectares of employment land, a local centre and a wide range of community facilities. The site’s location in the National Forest meant that provision of green infrastructure within the site was a major priority of the design development process, along with responding sensitively to the site’s heritage assets including listed buildings and conservation areas.
The site was identified in the Midlands Engine’s pitchbook for investment that launched at MIPIM in 2016. The wider design team has been working to discharge planning conditions and the land is being subdivided and parcelled for sale by developer Nurton Developments. As a result, major infrastructure works have now begun to take place on site, including a new bridge over the Trent and Mersey Canal.
The whole team is excited at seeing our work begin to come to fruition on what has been a hugely significant project for Node.
