We undertook a streetscene and conservation area appraisal in support of a planning appeal for a site in the setting of Shottery Conservation Area in Stratford upon Avon. This included acknowledging the prevailing character of the site, including the built form, scale and massing, materials and roof types and identifying features of the wider streetscene through a detailed photographic audit of the site and its surroundings. The neighbouring conservation area includes a number of listed buildings, including the grade II listed 10 and 12 Shottery, located opposite the site and the grade II* listed Stratford Grammar School for Girls.
Through a detailed understanding of the local context, we were able to make a strong and valid argument for the planning application at appeal.
