Node were commissioned by Linden Hill Capital Management to undertake a heritage, townscape and visual impact assessment for a site known as Maple House, located at an important city centre site along CorporationStreet, Birmingham.

Approach

Our detailed heritage, townscape and visual contextual analysis provided a critical tool in defining a place-based approach to the new development, which drew upon the area’s architectural and social history to create a new future for the building.

Result

We delivered a robust heritage townscape and visual impact assessment (HTVIA) report in support of the planning application, and which included zones of theoretical visibility modelling and 3D modelling through the use of VuCity.

Our HTVIA identified sensitive areas of nearby townscape, particularly in relation to scale and mass, which influenced the approach to the site’s architectural design.

The team liaised with Birmingham City Council to confirm the scope of the commission, ensuring that adequate, well-evidenced information was available to decision makers.
