Node were commissioned by the Gooch Estate and Stoford Developments to prepare a detailed landscape design for a mixed use project at Typhoo Wharf, a key canalside site in Digbeth, Birmingham.
The site is the former manufacturing centre of Typhoo tea and includes former industrial works and the Typhoo Basin, a uniquely shaped canal arm, which historically allowed water based deliveries to this highly industrial area of Digbeth. Typhoo Wharf will almost immediately adjoin the new proposed HS2 Curzon Station and is therefore a pivotal site within Birmingham city centre.
Node’s landscape design sought to maximise the unique character of the site and create an exciting public realm concept that would enhance the proposed project to stimulate economic growth and development in the area.
At least 1,000,000 sq ft of development is anticipated, which will include Grade A office space, SME business incubator space, bars and restaurants, artist studios and homes. The opportunity is expected to attract major inward investment into Digbeth and create hundreds of jobs.
