Providence Land – Promoting sustainable housing sites and building communities

Approach
Using a holistic approach, we combined our skills in urban design, landscape and heritage to create a scheme that sat alongside the existing townscape across two separate sites in the historic market town. To reduce impact we phased proposed development, provided significant green infrastructure and identified expansion space for the local school.
Result
We designed a phased masterplan for up to 254 new homes in Watlington with strong pedestrian and cycle connections to the town centre allowing current and future residents the choice to walk or cycle to the shops and other local facilities through a safe environment where they are the priority, not cars. The provision of a bus drop off/pick up zone at the centre of the scheme will help to ease the pressure at the heart of the town, improving overall standards of movement through the area.
