Approach
We worked alongside a project team, including Glenn Howells Architects to develop an innovative scheme to create a state of the art campus for University College Birmingham. One of the key challenges to overcome was the sensitive nature of the Jewellery Quarter Conservation Area. We engaged with local groups including the Birmingham Civic Society and the Jewellery Quarter Neighbourhood Forum to ensure the people at the heart of the location understood the proposals.
Impact
We worked together to take the scheme to CABE design review and submitted a planning application for the development. The proposed scheme will create external spaces that will transform the student experience at University College Birmingham, allowing students to develop and test ideas and work collaboratively in a dynamic and ever-changing environment. It will help University College Birmingham attract more students and cement their position as the local leader in vocational courses.
