Barton under Needwood Parish Council – Prominent local community council in Staffordshire

Approach
We devised an extensive consultation process with a diverse range of stakeholders including school groups, local businesses, interest groups such as Barton’s Civic Society, together with a daylong design charette event. We augmented this with detailed urban design analysis principally exploring the character of the village to ensure the final masterplan was respectful yet innovative for the historic village.
Impact
Our design reflected our understanding of the area and the local community’s needs through slowing of traffic, more car parking in the town centre and an overall safer environment. In addition to achieving community buy-in to our final designs, we produced a costing of proposals and a marketing booklet to be used to secure funding for the scheme. The resulting design would have a hugely beneficial impact on the lives of anyone living or working in Barton under Needwood.
