University of Swansea and St Modwen Developments – A collaboration between a University based in the centre of Swansea and a specialist regeneration company

Approach
We undertook a detailed historical analysis of both the site’s built heritage and its landscape to create a comprehensive heritage statement that could inform the design development process. We worked collaboratively with the architects, CADW and Swansea City Council to produce a design solution that best maximised the special character of the site in the creation of a planning and listed building application.
Impact
Hendrefoilan House is a grade II* listed building and as such can be considered to be of national importance. Our work provided detailed research and expertise to ensure that the designs for the site best reflected the site’s historic significance and landscape setting. This will be evident in the realisation of the scheme, which will provide a truly individual place to live and also secures the long term conservation of the building as well as assisting University of Swansea with their long term objectives. Planning and listed building consent was granted for the scheme in 2015.
